Grief and loss

Complicated grief can occur when someone we love very much dies. Their death can be expected or unexpected. It can happen quickly or happen over a long period of time. Persons who have complicated grief often feel “stuck” in their grief. Sometimes persons may experience anxiety, depression or isolation and not understand why they feel this way, but it is actually grief that is not processed. The death of the loved one may have occurred months ago, years ago or even decades ago. The grieving person may feel upset by their loved ones memories, empty without the person who died and very lonely since their loved one died.

Complicated grief can often occur when the grieving person feels a sense of guilt about something related to the persons death. Complicated grief can occur from the death of a partner, spouse, parent, child, sibling, other relative, friend, other known person or beloved pet.
